Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying Honored Cambodia’s Knight Grand Officer of the Royal Order of Monisaraphon
Chairman CY LEUNG was awarded the Knight Grand Officer of the Royal Order of Monisaraphon by Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeunthe on behalf of Cambodian government today (15 September 2025), in recognition of his significant contributions to Cambodia’s healthcare sector. The award ceremony was witnessed by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia WANG Wenbin, GX's CEO Prof. CHAN Ying-Yang Emily.
Chairman CY LEUNG expressed his deep honour for this distinction and his delight that GX’s work in Cambodia has been recognised by the local government. He extended special thanks to the Cambodian government, Ministry of Health, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Health Commission, Guangxi Medical Team, the GX's team, and local Chinese enterprises for their strong support for the work of GX. Looking ahead, he pledged to continue promoting cooperation between China and Cambodia in public health, fostering people-to-people connectivity, and contributing to the construction of a new era all-weather China–Cambodia community with a shared future.
In addition, CEO Prof. Emily CHAN was conferred the Knight Officer rank, while Senior Advisor CHUNG Pui-sing, Cambodian Advisors OKNHA YUM Sui-sang, LUU Meng, BER Ly, LUONG Chan-huy, WONG Hon-ping, as well as Southeast Asia Project Director LAM Wing-yin were awarded the Knight rank.
Currently, over 22,000 free cataract surgeries have been completed by GX’s Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme in Laos, Cambodia, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Senegal. In July 2024, the Foundation announced the successful elimination of backlog cataract cases in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia, and in October 2024, the program was relocated to Kampong Speu Province to continue providing surgeries to restore vision for patients in need. To date, the foundation has conducted over 7,700 screenings and performed 5,800 surgeries in Cambodia.
Moreover, in July last year, GX launched the Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever in Kampong Speu Province and along Cambodia’s first expressway connecting Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville (the Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville Expressway), installing mosquito lamps and distributing educational materials at rest areas and staff lounges to help reduce the risk of dengue infection among local communities.
The Royal Order of Monisaraphon is primarily awarded to individuals who have made outstanding achievements and significant contributions in education, arts, science, literacy, or social work.Previously, in September 2022, Chairman LEUNG was conferred the the Royal Order of Monisaraphon at the Knight Commander rank in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public health and humanitarian aid in Cambodia.
