VBD Control

Vector-borne diseases (VBD) are among the world’s most persistent – and preventable – public health threats, with mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue fever creating disproportionate suffering in tropical regions. As climate change and urbanisation expands habitats for disease carriers, vulnerable communities face growing risks without adequate prevention tools. GX Foundation disrupts this cycle through a proven, four-pillar approach: early diagnosis, vector suppression, community protection, and education. By deploying targeted interventions where environmental risks and healthcare gaps intersect, we’re turning the tide against these deadly yet manageable diseases.

Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever

GX Foundation has implemented VBD control efforts across vulnerable regions including Timor-LesteHonduras, Cambodia, Laos, DjiboutiVanuatu, and along critical transport corridors like the China-Laos Railway and Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway. Building on our 2022 VBD prevention and education programme, we launched our inaugural “Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever” in 2023 to strengthen community defences against this growing threat.

Dengue fever presents unique challenges. Since no cure currently exists, prevention becomes life-saving. Furthermore, untreated cases face mortality rates as high as 20%, but early detection and proper care can reduce fatalities to under 1%.

To address this, our project uses a four-pronged approach:

  • Early diagnosis and treatment through distribution of rapid test kits
  • Vector suppression through distribution of essential tools including mosquito-killing lamps, insecticide-treated bed nets, sticky fly traps, and repellents
  • Community-led prevention initiatives
  • Public education on risks and protection

Communities in our project regions now demonstrate greater awareness of dengue prevention and have widely adopted protective measures. We have also strengthened partnerships with governments across project countries. By combining immediate interventions with sustainable behaviour change, we’re helping high-risk regions curb the outbreak cycle – protecting lives today while building resilience for tomorrow.
