Relocating Cambodia’s Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme to Kampong Thom

GX’s “Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme” in Cambodia has relocated from Kampong Speu to a new project site in Kampong Thom in September. GX Senior Adviser CHUNG Pui-shing, Cambodian Adviser Mr. LUU Meng, Guangxi Medical Team Head Dr. XU Fan, Deputy Governor of Kampong Thom Province H.E. HAN Kosal, and Director of the Kampong Thom Provincial Health Department Dr. PEK Kimsan attended the programme’s launch ceremony in Kampong Thom on 23 September, unveiling eye patches for the first batch of patients who have regained their sight.

The programme in Cambodia is a collaboration between GX and the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Since December 2022, a total of 17 cohorts of Guangxi medical teams have been dispatched across the country, including Prey Veng and Kampong Speu provinces, providing more than 6,600 free cataract surgeries for local residents.
