Chairman CY LEUNG leads youth volunteers in Vanuatu’s 45th Independence Anniversary; GX invests over 120 million vatu to support medical and disaster preparedness projects
Chairman LEUNG led a delegation of over 60 members to Vanuatu to participate in the country's 45th Independence Anniversary celebrations. Accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu LI Ming-gang, Chairman LEUNG, together with Board Member Dr. KO Wing-man and CEO Prof. CHAN, held separate meetings with Vanuatu President Nikenike VUROBARAVU, Prime Minister Jotham NAPAT, and Minister of Health John Still TARIQETU to discuss future healthcare cooperation.
On 31 July, GX held the "Vanuatu Disaster Preparedness Kit Project (2025) Successful Completion & Celebration Ceremony" in the Erakor Community, attended by chiefs from beneficiary villages and local residents. This marked GX's fourth mission to Vanuatu and its largest overseas aid operation to date. The team included 18 secondary and university students from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and overseas institutions, serving as "GX Youth Ambassadors", alongside 9 retired volunteers. The Youth Ambassadors assisted in distributing supplies, conducted educational workshops on kit usage, and engaged with local communities, demonstrating Hong Kong youth's commitment to international humanitarian efforts.
Since February 2025, GX has implemented two major humanitarian projects in Vanuatu: the "National Malaria, Dengue Fever, and Other Vector-borne Disease Control Programme" and the "Disaster Preparedness Kit Project". With an investment exceeding 120 million Vatu (approx. USD 1 million), the initiatives have supplied health clinics and hospitals nationwide, benefiting nearly half of Port Vila's population and supporting vulnerable communities in disaster-prone areas.
Additionally, in response to Fiji’s recent dengue fever outbreak, the delegation visited to assess the situation. Accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Fiji ZHOU Jian, they met with Fijian President Ratu Naiqama LALABALAVU, Prime Minister Sitiveni RABUKA, Acting Minister for Health & Medical Services, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Hon. Filimoni VOSAROGO, WHO representatives, and local Chinese enterprises and communities. These discussions aimed to evaluate potential dengue fever prevention and control projects in Fiji.
