Nurturing Humanitarian Talents: Timor-Leste Medical Students Completes Study Tour Across Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau
GX has long been committed to nurturing the next generation of humanitarian aid talents. Following the visit of the first cohort of students from the Timor-Leste "Youth Development Programme" last year, the second cohort—comprising 8 medical students from the Universidade Católica Timorense, also completed an 11-day study tour across the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau mid-this month.
In Hong Kong, the students engaged in meaningful dialogues with Chairman LEUNG, CEO Prof. Emily CHAN, and Dr. David LAM, Member of the Legislative Council. They visited the medical faculties of the HKU and the CUHK, as well as the School of Nursing at the PolyU. They also toured the Chinese Medicine Hospital, the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute, and the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy.
Subsequently, they travelled by high-speed rail to Shenzhen, where they visited the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital and explored the China Merchants History Museum and the Low-Altitude Economy Industrial Park. Meanwhile, in Macau, the students gained hands-on experience at the MUST, learning about simulation medicine, CPR, and AI medical applications, followed by a visit to the Beijing Tong Ren Tang to explore Chinese medicine culture.
The students enjoyed the panoramic night view from the Peak in Hong Kong and participated in cultural exchange activities with local university students. Student representative Monica shared, "This trip was an incredibly rewarding experience. It has not only provided invaluable clinical training but also offered an opportunity to network, creating a unique space to connect, and build lasting friendships. I was deeply touched by the way people preserve their cultural heritage while transitioning towards modern innovation."
