GX has successfully completed Laos' nationwide "Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme" (2019-2025) in May 2025, performing approximately 5,800 free cataract surgeries across 10 cohorts. This makes Laos the first country globally to fully eliminate its cataract blindness backlog, following GX’s successful projects in Cambodia’s Prey Veng Province and Senegal’s Fatick Region. Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying and CEO Prof. CHAN Ying-yang, Emily met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo KHAIKHAMPHITHOUNE to discuss future medical and public health cooperation in Laos.

In parallel, GX renewed its MOU with the Laos-China Railway Company on May 10, extending the "Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever" for 2 additional years. Since its May 2024 launch, the project has installed 1,000 mosquito-killing lamps across 24 stations (for both Laos and Yunnan sections) of the China-Laos Railway, becoming one of the few large-scale disease prevention projects implemented on a cross-border railway globally. Widely praised by passengers and staff, the extension will further mitigate dengue risks along this critical Belt and Road corridor.
