Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying and CEO Prof. CHAN Ying-yang, Emily, attended the Southeast Asia Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme Commemorative Medal Ceremony held today in Guangxi, where they announced GX's completion of 20,000 free cataract surgeries across five countries globally.

Since 2022, the Guangxi Health Commission has sent 10 medical teams each to Laos and Cambodia, who have collectively performed over 10,600 free cataract surgeries - accounting for more than half of the project's global total. In his ceremony address, Chairman LEUNG commended the Guangxi medical teams, stating their foreign aid work fully supports China's peripheral diplomacy needs. He added that "as we deepen international cooperation and exchange, Hong Kong must continue progressing forward, doing our utmost in the field of public health to assist people in developing countries."

During the event, Chairman LEUNG presented commemorative medals to 131 medical team members who had served in both countries, recognising their "perseverance and selfless dedication that embodies the spirit of 'sharing'".

The ceremony was also attended by LIAO Pin-hu, Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; WANG Nai-xue, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; LIANG Lei, Deputy Secretary-General of the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; XIE Nai-tang, Director of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region CPPCC’s Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese; and DU Zhen-zong, Head of the Health Commission of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
