Chairman LEUNG Presents Medals to Guangxi Medical Team Members of the Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme
Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying attended the "Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme Medical Team Commemorative Medal Presentation Ceremony" in Nanning, Guangxi, on 18 March, where he presented medals to 34 members of the Guangxi medical teams who had served in Cambodia over the previous five cohorts. During their assignments, the teams performed a total of 1,543 surgeries, restoring sight to local patients.
Also in attendance were SUI Guo-hua, Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; WANG Nai-xue, Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) ; LIU Guo-ye, Deputy Secretary-General of the Autonomous Regional People's Government and Deputy Director-General of the Government General Office; HUANG Tao, Deputy Director of the CPPCC Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the Autonomous Region Committee; DU Zhen-zong, Party Secretary and Director of the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; ZHOU Gong-wei, Party Committee Member and Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; as well as GX Foundation Board Members YUE Yi and LEE Man-chun.
Since the programme began, GX and the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have jointly dispatched 26 medical teams to Cambodia and Laos, completing over 12,000 surgeries to date. Their efforts have been highly praised by local governments and communities. At the ceremony, Chairman LEUNG commended the Guangxi medical teams for their longstanding commitment to overseas medical aid, noting that in helping local residents regain their sight, they have also strengthened "people-to-people connectivity" and advanced medical cooperation between China and the project countries.
