Chairman LEUNG meets with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health while a Dengue Control Seminar held at LCR Headquarters

Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying and CEO Prof. CHAN Ying-yang, Emily have together led a delegation to Laos in late July. The delegation met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith MANGNORMEK and Lao Minister of Health Baykham KHATTIYA respectively, exchanging views on medical technologies and strengthening regional healthcare infrastructures. The Minister of Health, Baykham KHATTIYA, highly praised GX’s work in the region, noting that GX not only provides strong support to the elimination of cataract blindness and dengue prevention in Laos, but also brought innovative insights and highly effective solutions to Lao’s public health. Both sides have actively explored the feasibility of expanding the “Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme” to other regions in Laos.

To continue promoting local public health education, GX held a special dengue fever prevention seminar on July 20 at the headquarters of Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd., attracting more than 80 local railway employees to participate. At the seminar, Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying has introduced the work and impacts of GX in Laos for the past four years, while Dr. POON Yen-yen, Grace, Southeast Asia Director, explained the clinical symptoms and prevention measures of vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever and malaria, enhancing the frontline staff's awareness of prevention and control. This seminar is also a symbolic continuation of the “Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever” since its official launched in 2024.

In addition, the delegation held a conference with World Health Organisation Representative in Laos, sharing the latest developments in various medical assistance projects and discussing about further multilateral collaborations in the future.

Since September 2022, GX has established “Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme” in Laos, and to date, has cumulated nearly 6,000 free cataract surgeries. At the same time, since 2024, GX has been actively promoting dengue fever prevention and control along the China-Laos Railway and implemented 871 mosquito lamps and distributed large amounts of educational materials to 29 stations along the railway, protecting the health and safety of local residents through concrete actions.
