Chairman LEUNG Leads a Delegation to Mauritania Celebrates 1,000th Cataract Surgery Milestone in Kiffa

After concluding his visit to Senegal, Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying led a delegation to Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, on 20 January. There, he met with President Mohamed Ould GHAZOUANI and Minister of Health Mohamed Mahmoud ELY MAHMOUD to explore avenues for cooperation in strengthening vector-borne disease prevention and enhancing public health capacity.

The team subsequently travelled to GX's project site in Kiffa, meeting with the Governor of Assaba Region, Ahmedou Adahi AKHTER, the Mayor of Kiffa, Jamal Ould KABOUD, and representatives from several local community organisations. The discussions focused on community needs and grassroots implementation of vector-borne disease control initiatives. The delegation also exchanged views with the current cohort of the Heilongjiang Medical Team and the Chinese Medical Team aiding Mauritania, witnessing the important milestone of completing 1,000th free cataract surgery in Kiffa.
