Chairman Attends Inauguration Ceremony of the Techo International Airport
Chairman LEUNG attended the ceremony and joined Cambodian Prime Minister HUN Manet and Mr. PUNG Kheav Se, Chairman of Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC) and Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), for the ribbon cutting.
Situated in Kandal Province, the Techo International Airport is approximately 19 kilometres from downtown Phnom Penh, spans an area of about 2,600 hectares and is being developed in three phases. As Cambodia's first 4F-level international airport, the first phase represents a significant investment of approximately USD 2.15 billion, establishing it as the largest and most advanced international aviation hub in Cambodia and a vital landmark project for the nation.
Chairman LEUNG expressed his honour to attend the inauguration and highlighted the airport’s potential as a new engine for Cambodia’s growth. He underscored Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and its commitment to engaging in Cambodia’s infrastructure and regional cooperation. With the Techo International Airport now operational, he expressed confidence that Hong Kong and Cambodia would experience expanded opportunities in trade, economic activities, and cultural exchanges. He added that Hong Kong would continue serving as a bridge, encouraging more enterprises from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong to take part in Cambodia’s economic growth, particularly in transport infrastructure, smart urban development, sustainable initiatives, thereby strengthening Cambodia’s connectivity both regionally and globally.
He also stated that the GX Foundation, which he founded, will continue its public health and humanitarian work in Cambodia. In partnership with the Techo International Airport, the GX Foundation will launch the “Health Risk Prevention Against Dengue Fever and Other Vector-Borne Diseases Project”, aimed at improving local public health conditions and fostering “people-to-people connectivity”.
