In celebration of World Humanitarian Day: Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region CUI Jianchun praises GX Foundation for broadening horizons and fostering patriotism in youth
Today (August 19) is "World Humanitarian Day", a day dedicated to commending and recognizing humanitarian workers across the world. In the "Volunteer Appreciation Day and Celebration of World Humanitarian Day" event held GX Foundation (“the Foundation”) today, the Chairman of GX Foundation, LEUNG Chun-ying, and the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, CUI Jianchun delivered the a speech respectively and presented certificates to over 70 retired individuals and young volunteers, recognizing their efforts in fostering “people-to-people connectivity” in Belt and Road countries over the past year.
Celebration of World Humanitarian Day with certificates awarded to Foundation volunteers
To commend the volunteers who have embodied the spirit of humanitarianism in their work overseas over the past year, the Foundation presented certificates today to interns from educational institutions, including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Hong Kong, as well as volunteers. During the event, Chairman of GX Foundation, LEUNG Chun-ying stated that the Foundation has achieved positive outcomes in its different project countries over the past 6 years. He sincerely thanks to the support of the OCMFA, as well as efforts and hard work of all Foundation staff and volunteers. GX Foundation will continue developing into an international humanitarian aid organization with international discourse power.
Commissioner CUI Jianchun praised the Foundation team for embodying the international humanitarian spirit of fearlessness, selfless dedication, and boundless love, expressing sincere admiration for the work of the Foundation. Commissioner CUI added that the Foundation helps Hong Kong youth broaden their horizons, while gaining a deeper understanding of the global significance and successful implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, nurturing a strong sense of patriotism. He sees the Lion Rock spirit of Hong Kong in the Foundation staff, full of perseverance and tenacity of the Hong Kong people, as well as their benevolence and philanthropy.
Exchange at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to share about civil diplomacy efforts
The Foundation delegation, led by the CEO of GX Foundation, Professor Emily CHAN Ying-yang, conducted in-depth exchange at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR (OCMFA) on August 16. Deputy Commissioner LI Yongsheng and youth representatives from the OCMFA attended the session. During the meeting, colleagues and interns from GX Foundation presented updates and successes of the "Cataract Blindness Elimination Program" in Laos, Cambodia, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Senegal, as well as the "Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever" implemented along the China-Laos railway, in Timor-Leste, and Honduras.
CEO of GX Foundation, Professor Emily CHAN Ying-yang expressed her gratitude towards the young team and volunteers for overcoming difficult living conditions, planning and carrying out various medical and public health programs from scratch. She added that although Hong Kong citizens cannot participate in national defence and diplomatic work, nor can young people become diplomats for their country, the Foundation has provided a new platform for Hong Kong youth that aspire to engage in foreign affairs.
The OCMFA also provided insights into the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, China's diplomatic policies, and the Belt and Road Initiative. This exchange enhanced the understanding of the Foundation staff on key diplomatic concepts, which can be applied in their future work.
