Djiboutian Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed highly praises GX Foundation program for fostering “people-to-people” connectivity
Chairman of GX Foundation (“the Foundation”), Vice Chairperson of the CPPCC, LEUNG Chun-ying met with the visiting Prime Minister of Djibouti, Abdoulkader Kamil MOHAMED, in Hong Kong today (23 August), where they conducted in-depth exchanges on the medical humanitarian program of GX Foundation in Djibouti, as well as medical collaborations between China and Djibouti.
Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil MOHAMED highly praised the "Cataract Blindness Elimination Program" of GX Foundation in Djibouti for its important role in fostering "people-to-people" connectivity between China and Djibouti. He also thanked the Chinese medical team for bringing light of hope to many Djiboutians. Chairman LEUNG shared that more than 3000 free cataract surgeries with good surgical outcomes were completed in the country. The Foundation's program is an important bridge for fostering "people-to-people" connectivity between China and Djibouti, as well as a valuable opportunity for Hong Kong youth to take part in humanitarian aid and civil diplomacy.
During the site visit in April this year, Chairman LEUNG visited patients who have regained their vision and also investigated on the local dengue situation in the community. The Foundation will soon have even closer collaboration on dengue prevention with the government of Djibouti.
Prime Minister MOHAMED attended the opening ceremony of the GX Foundation "Cataract Blindness Elimination Program" in Djibouti City on 27 February 2023, and conferred Chairman LEUNG with La médaille d'Officier de l'Ordre National du 27 Juin on the same day for his contribution towards health in Djibouti.
The Foundation's "Cataract Blindness Elimination Program" in the capital of Djibouti City will be relocated to the western city of Tadjoura this November, with free cataract surgeries will be provided in Chinese-aided hospital.
