6 years of GX Foundation spreading Chinese kindness from Hong Kong
In response to the spirit of “mutual sharing” under the Belt and Road Initiative, GX Foundation was established six years ago, committing itself to providing medical and public health humanitarian aid to countries along the Belt and Road, as well as fostering people-to-people connectivity between countries.
In September 2022, our first medical humanitarian aid program, the Cataract Blindness Elimination Program, was launched in Laos, followed by Cambodia, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Senegal. To date, we have completed over 10,000 free cataract surgeries worldwide.
Reaching the milestone of 10,000 cases did not come easy. It is the fruit of our team’s hard work in the field, along with many heartwarming patient stories. Many patients, upon having their vision restored post-operation, started dancing for joy, kissing and hugging our colleagues and medical team. One patient even named his grandsons after our colleagues to thank GX for their help.
During the launch of the “Cataract Blindness Elimination Program”, GX also noticed the high risk of dengue fever in its project countries and thus, started preparing for and promoting the “Program for the Protection against Dengue Fever”. This January, Timor-Leste became GX Foundation’s inaugural country for the launch of a program targeting vector-borne diseases. It is also the Foundation’s sixth project country. The “Program for the Protection against Dengue Fever” in Honduras and along the Boten-Vientiane Railway will be launched soon, gradually expanding the service areas of GX.
“People-to-people connectivity” is never just a slogan to us. The work of GX Foundation was officially recognized at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation as a pragmatic achievement of the “Belt and Road” “People-to-People Connectivity” Initiative.
GX would like to thank its colleagues, programme partners, governments and Ministries of Health of the project countries, the National Health Commission and provincial medical teams. It also would not have been possible without the support and help from all Chinese enterprises, making the work of the Foundation smoother.
In the future, we will continue our mission and spread the spirit of “mutual sharing” to more countries along the Belt and Road. We are committed to leveraging our strengths to provide humanitarian assistance to more locals and boost the development in the field of medical and public health worldwide.
May GX Foundation continue to flourish and spread the kindness of the Chinese worldwide, contributing towards building a community with a shared future for mankind!
