2025-05-26

At today's Hospital Authority symposium, CAO Xuetao, Deputy Director of China's National Health Commission, reaffirmed support for Hong Kong medical institutions and professionals participating in international aid missions and Health Silk Road initiatives. CAO outlined three key priorities: strengthening confidence in China's healthcare development; fostering medical and scientific innovation to upgrade the health sector; and creating opportunities for pharmaceutical companies and research institutions to contribute to healthcare system improvements.

GX expressed gratitude for the steadfast support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Health Commission, and four provincial governments of Guangxi, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, and Fujian. This support has enabled GX to provide over 21,000 sight-restoring cataract surgeries in five Belt and Road countries over the past 2.5 years. Simultaneously, GX has established offices in eight countries spanning Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania, implementing multiple public health projects on the ground. These include the "Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever", "Direct Potable Water Project", and "Disaster Preparedness Kit" distribution, comprehensively enhancing primary healthcare and emergency response capabilities in recipient countries.

GX CEO Prof. CHAN Ying-yang, Emily noted that the "Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme" - launched in September 2022 - exemplifies Hong Kong's unique advantage under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. By combining mainland medical expertise with Hong Kong's philanthropic networks, the project brings Chinese compassion to the global stage, deepens international cooperation, and contributes Hong Kong's strength to the development of the Health Silk Road.
