Completion of 10,000 vision-restoring surgeries worldwide

GX has achieved a remarkable milestone by performing a total of 10,000 surgeries to restore vision across the globe! Chairman of GX Foundation, Mr. LEUNG Chun-ying, and CEO Professor Emily CHAN Ying-yang visited patients in Prey Veng province in Cambodia in late January. They celebrated the Foundation’s milestone of the completion of its 10,000th surgery globally with local officials from the Ministry of Health, Cambodian advisors of the Foundation, the Guangxi medical team, and cross-strait four regions university students.

During the visit, Chairman LEUNG Chun-ying, and CEO Professor Emily CHAN Yingyang also held meetings with Cambodian Prime Minister, His Excellency HUN Manet; and Minister of Health, His Excellency CHHEANG Ra respectively. The progress of the Foundation's "Cataract Blindness Elimination Program" and recent launch of the "Pilot Project for Health Protection against Dengue Fever" in Timor-Leste were discussed to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in the field of public health.
Chairman LEUNG thanked the Health Commissions of each province/autonomous region for their generous support and the efforts of the medical team members, all of whom played a key role in the success of the program. Mr. LEUNG encouraged the medical teams to keep working hard to reach the surgical target for the coming years.

The program of the Foundation has been recognized by the local governments and people in the various project countries. In January, Senegal President Mr. Macky SALL and Lao Minister of Health, His Excellency Dr. Bounfeng PHOUMMALAYSITH, visited the Foundation’s team and medical team in the Fatick Region in Senegal and Luang Prabang in Laos, respectively. Their visits served to affirm the Foundation's dedicated efforts toward eliminating cataract blindness.

With the support of the Health Commissions from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Shanxi Province, Heilongjiang Province, and Fujian Province, the Foundation has dispatched 18 medical teams consisting of over 120 medical workers. These teams have provided screenings and surgeries for over 16,000 patients, completing 10,000 cases, respectively, in 5 countries since September 2022, and all the surgeries brought positive post-operative outcomes to the patients.
