On the first day of internship, 7 students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong assisted in stimulating “The Cataract Blindness Elimination Project” at GX’s project site in Vientiane, Laos. Apart from performing simple health checkups for patients, they also shared their healthcare knowledge, including vector-borne diseases transmission and medication for diabetes and high blood pressure, with local patients and their families. In addition, the students took the opportunity to learn from the Guangxi medical team to Laos about eye exam procedures.
Professor Emily Chan Ying-yang, CEO of GX Foundation, gave a lecture to students on the ground, sharing some important notes she learnt from her early experiences working in the humanitarian frontline. She also encouraged students to seize the opportunity to participate in international medical humanitarian aid outside of Hong Kong.
