GX visited CMH Obock in Obock Region. It is accessible by road from Djibouti, or by boat across the gulf of Aden. It serves the population of Obock, as well as a very large refugee population from Eritrea, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Basic services, such as maternity, prenatal, vaccination, nutrition and laboratory are provided, as well as also more specialist services, including radiology, ophthalmology, some operations, and ambulances. However, there is only one ophthalmological technician available to perform screening, and patients have to be referred to Djibouti for surgery. This visit is vital to gulf a partnership for future patient recruitment into the cataract blindness elimination project in Djibouti.
