GX Foundation donates rapid tests to Djibouti to strengthen national health capacity

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious disease in the Republic of Djibouti, GX Foundation contributed to the medical needs of the country by donating 20,000 COVID-19 test kits, 10,000 Malaria test kits and 5,000 Dengue fever rapid test kits. In a time where Djibouti is facing nation-wide stock out of Dengue fever rapid tests, this donation will help to ensure that effective care can be provided to patients, medical staff, and the general community. An official ceremony was held at the Minister of Health in Djibouti, attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Djibouti, Dr. Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh; the Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Hu Bing; the CEO of GX, Prof. Emily Ying Yang Chan. The Chairman of GX Foundation, Mr. Leung Chun-ying as well as other donors, partners and guests attended the ceremony online.

GX Foundation and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Djibouti signed a Memorandum of Understanding in December 2019, entering into a partnership to eliminate the backlog of cataract-blind patients in the country. Two Mobile Eye Treatment Centres have been manufactured and are ready to serve their purpose. Medical experts from Shanxi Province in China have also been recruited and trained to undertake this project to serve the people of Djibouti.
