GX Foundation donates 20 tonnes of emergency relief to Lao PDR

GX Foundation donated 20 tonnes of emergency relief to Lao PDR on 4th June 2021.

The official donation was received by the Deputy Prime Minister of Lao PDR and Chairman of the National Taskforce for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Kikeo Khaykhamphitoune from the Chairman of GX Foundation, Mr. Leung Chun-ying in the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Vientiane. 

Under restricted attendance and social distancing measures, the event was witnessed by representatives of the Lao PDR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Lao PDR Ministry of Health, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Lao PDR including Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, and GX Foundation. Following the event, GX Chairman, Mr. Leung Chun-ying also met with Lao PDR Prime Minister, Phankham Viphavanh, who thanked GX for the generous donation.

GX is committed to providing continued humanitarian medical support to partner countries, to uphold the value of “people to people connectivity” under the Belt and Road Initiative for International Cooperation. This donation was an urgent response to a request made by the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR to GX Foundation, under the context of the March 2021 COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The equipment donated by GX includes 60 patient monitors; 10 ventilators; 1,500,000 surgical masks; 30,000 surgical gowns; 160,000 gloves; 10,000 safety goggles; and 10,000 face shields.
