Official opening of GX Foundation Hong Kong Headquarters

The opening ceremony of the GX Foundation Hong Kong headquarters office was held on the morning of August 20, 2020. The attending guests included Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Chairman of GX Foundation, and Directors Dr. Ko Wing-man, Mr. Zhang Huan-ping, Mr. Cheng Kar-shing, and board members, as well as partners in various fields.

 

In his opening speech, Mr. Leung highlighted that GX Foundation is a Chinese NGO established in Hong Kong, aiming to provide international medical humanitarian aid and related assistance. The establishment of GX was to embody the spirit of "people-to-people connectivity" between the international communities by upholding the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits. These highlight the idea of “sharing” under the Belt and Road Initiative for International Cooperation, and the establishment of a communities with a shared future.

 

In the early stages of development, the GX will deploy Chinese medical teams to provide free cataract surgeries for the local people in both East Africa and South East Asia. Missions include sites in Djibouti, Laos, and Prey Veng Province in Cambodia. In the mid-term, GX will develop itself as an international flagship medical and health assistance organization. The long-term goal is to become a recognized force in the international humanitarian field, with discursive power and capacity to effectively support China’s participation in global governance and international development cooperation.

 

During the event, GX Director Mr. Cheng Kar-shing, Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, presented a donation of HKD 50 million in the name of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation to support the GX's cataract surgery projects in Africa for the next 5 years.
