Hong Kong community health outreach and facemask distribution project

GX partnered with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Western District Elderly Community Centre, the Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC), and the CUHK Centre for Global Health for a community health outreach and mask distribution project. Staff, students, and volunteers from GX Foundation, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong Li Ka-shing Faculty of Medicine, and other volunteers visited the homes of elderly people living in Western District from 11-13 August 2021. They performed a medical check-up for the elderly, including measurement of blood pressure, height, and weight.  The groups also conducted surveys regarding household safety, public health awareness, and disaster preparedness. In line with GX's strategic programmatic area of Health-Emergency Disaster Risk Management, disaster bags were distributed to each household to improve their awareness of disaster risk and preparedness. The bags included facemasks, hand sanitiser, band-aids, soap, a magnifying glass, a flashlight, healthy nutrition recipes, and a personal medical record card.
